The lid is super tight, you need to use a little pressure to pop them on and they even need pressure to get them off. That is a good thing because I won't have to worry about them falling off while the kids are trying to pour their cereal. I have seen containers that have a flip top lid. These actually come with a measuring scoop. That way if you want to measure how much cereal you are actually eating, or you can just pull the measuring scoop off and pour it in the bowl. The scoop is not as hard to get on and off, it actually comes off pretty easily. That's not an issue for me because they sit on a shelf.
These containers are microwave, freezer, and dish washer safe. I am only using them for cereal so I was surprised that they were freezer and microwave safe! I was able to poor in 2 boxes of fruit loops and have the lid fit on perfect. Each box of cereal were 8.7 oz. They were "normal" size boxes not the large family size ones!
I love these because it allows my children 3 choices of cereal and they are not allowed to open any other boxes until those are gone.
